Dobsonfly

Dobsonflies are large insects and while not colorful or particularly beautiful they are striking in their appearance. The wings have an especially interesting pattern. This is a female with its relatively small mandibles. Males have large curved mandibles which are impressive. Adults are strong fliers that live close to streams where they lay their eggs. The immature stages are aquatic.
