Scolopendra subspinipes
Vietnamese Giant Centipede
Scolopendra subspinipes, commonly known as the Vietnamese or Pacific giant centipede, is a large, aggressive, venomous centipede found across tropical Asia, the Pacific, and other introduced regions, known for its painful bite and use in traditional medicine. It is a fast, nocturnal predator that hunts insects, spiders, and small vertebrates, using its venom to subdue prey. Its venom is medically significant, causing intense pain, swelling, and tissue damage, though fatalities are rare and usually due to secondary infection or anaphylaxis.
