The black-and-yellow is Batesian mimicry, and it is better than the pattern alone suggests — the beetle shares those goldenrod heads with Polistes paper wasps feeding at the same time, so a bird gets no clean sorting problem. There is evidence the mimicry runs into chemistry too, not just color.
